Electronic Passport

The Republic of Sudan followed the international requirements of substituting their hand written passport by a machine readable passport in July 2008. The electronic passport uses contactless smart card technology, including a microprocessor chip and antenna (for both power to the chip and communication) embedded in the front or back cover, or centre page, of the passport.

However they did not follow many of their African neighbor countries in engaging a European or Pakistani system integrator or even operator of the system. They are doing the system integration and the operation of their new e-passport system on their own. Kushite Integrated Technologies Ltd. is fully owned by the Sudanese government. As a private limited company it got the task to procure the necessary technologies from internationally acknowledged suppliers. In addition they engaged HJP Consulting to help them in the planning, procurement and approval processes from making a field study towards the final site acceptance testing.

Civil Registration and Identity System

Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) won a contract with the Republic of Sudan in order to develop and implement a civil registration and identity system for the country. NADRA reportedly signed a contract with Kushite Integrated Company Ltd, a subsidiary of the Sudanese Ministry of Interior.

The project will not only issue identity cards to Sudanese Sudan but will also develop a centralized and integrated civil registration system backed with a sophisticated multi-biometric data warehouse.
